Around the world we have an ecological cascade meaning that if there were no whales there would not be that much fish in the ocean. So that means that whales are actually apex predators. We find out that whales eat fish , krill and shrimp but that is not what they only do in the ecosystem, and we start to kill whales because of what we do but that does not mean we should kill all of them if we kill all of them and the fish and krill will decline their populations. They can help the ocean as well.
The whales first go down under the dark waters to feed on fish and krill that they can catch then after that go up to the photic zone where there is enough sunlight where there is enough light for photosynthesis to happen. When they are upto the photic zone they come out to release something called fecal plumes which are rich in iron and nitrogen, those nutrients are really scarce in the waters, then those fecal plumes fertilize the plant planktons, the place where plant planktons are only where plants can survive: the photic zone. They also kick up plankton up into the photic zone so that it gives out more time for the plankton to reproduce before it sinks down to the bottom called the abyss. Plant plankton don't only feed the animals of the sea but they also absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Then eventually it sinks to the ocean floor, it takes the carbon out of the circulation, down to a place where it remains for years.
So that’s why we should not kill all the whales because if we kill all the whales in the ocean there will not there will not be enough plant plankton in the ocean to help the fish so we should keep whales all all alive. The more whales there are, the more fish and krill there will be to sustain the whole ocean. So don’t kill all the whales in the ocean, killing whales ruins the whole ecosystem. Don’t ever kill a whale!
