Why do skunks smell?

Why do skunks smell.

Skunks smell because they have 2 glands. First the skunk produces the spray in the glands on the tail. It is actually a type of unpleasant odor that they use to defend themselves from their own predators. The name of the odor is called N-butyl mercaptan that they make from their tails. The smell is actually made of a sulphur mixture. The smell also contains chemicals like thiols which actually has a bad smell. So that's the way the skunk builds its smell to defend themselves.
